"Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much."
Luke 16:10 NIV

In Luke 16:9-13, we read that having the right attitude towards money and having wisdom in managing finances will lead us to be "welcomed into eternal dwellings".

The right attitude is God first. The things that we think about the most and use our energy to attain - that is truly where our heart is. What we really treasure. Remember the poor widow at the temple with her two small copper coins (Mark 12:42-44)? Like her, we must put the Kingdom of God first.

Wisdom is realizing that money is important. Planning and managing our resources well - counting the cost - is wise (Luke 14:28-30). The more clearly we grasp what God has blessed us with, the more wisely we can apply it to advancing God's Kingdom on Earth. To be able to confidently bless those around us. And, if we do this well, we are likely to be blessed with more (Verse 10).

But beware! It is important to guard against greed, as it is all too easy for the rich - anyone who has more than enough - to become proud, boastful, and blind to their need for God (Revelation 3:17).

Maybe you are struggling with your finances? You are not alone! Pray to God to help you discover what you may have done wrong. And whatever the reason is, face it honestly, ask God to help you avoid it in the future. Then ask God to help you take practical steps to bring your finances under control. Perhaps by setting - and sticking to - a budget. Not sure how to do that? Get advice from a Brother or Sister in Christ who you trust (Proverbs 19:20).

Maybe you are in a time of plenty? Thank God daily! Pray for wisdom to avoid the love of money (Hebrews 13:5) and ask God to help you discern how and where to be generous with what he has given you. And remember not to worry about what you do or do not have (Matthew 6:25)!

"Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans."
Proverbs 16:3 NIV
