Day 19 - Jobs and Employment
1/21/2025
Let's FACE it.
The story of Jacob in Genesis 28-31 provides profound lessons on faith and persistence. Jacob received a powerful blessing from his father and encountered God in a vision, yet he spent the next 20 years working under his uncle's unfair conditions.
The question is: how did Jacob navigate these challenges?
- Faith (Genesis 28:10-22). Jacob's Faith didn't stop at receiving God's promises, throughout his trials, he demonstrated confidence in God's unwavering ability to accomplish his promises.
- Action (Gen 29:1). "Then Jacob went" … Jacob pressed on, despite fears, uncertainty, doubts and what was evidently a difficult journey.
- Creativity (Gen 30:37-41). When the situation seemed impossible, Bible scholars suggested that Jacob, inspired by God, showed ingenuity that defied logic and scientific explanation: Streaked, Speckled or Spotted.
- Encouragement (Genesis 31:1-13). Jacob experienced exploitation, was denied fair pay, and deprived of promotions. Yet, in his disappointments, Jacob found encouragement and reassurance in God's presence and left this employment fully compensated.
Whether you're in a toxic work environment, transitioning in your careers, jobs and businesses, God offers us encouragement today. Like Jacob, we can persist despite rejections, self-doubts and uncertainties. We can be innovative problem-solvers with the help of the holy spirit.
Let us pray today:
- for courage to face challenges and barriers before us.
- for open doors and opportunities for those seeking employment, and testimonies of favour for job interviews.
- for lifting, favour, promotions, advancement and fulfilment in our jobs, businesses and career in Jesus' name, Amen.
